Reducing Night Wakings

Parent Workshop: Reducing Night Wakings

Workshop Overview:

If your child wakes up overnight and has trouble getting back to sleep on their own, this course will give you a set of clear, practical strategies to help. You’ll learn three proven methods, including a tool called the bedtime pass, to help your child stay in bed and learn to settle back to sleep without needing you there every time.

What you’ll learn:

  • The difference between difficulty staying in bed at bedtime and difficulty settling back to sleep after waking overnight
  • How to use the bedtime pass, a simple card system that gives your child a set number of approved trips out of bed, with a full setup and fading example
  • How to use proximity fading overnight, including specific tips for keeping things calm and quiet (minimal light, minimal talking) so it’s easier for your child to settle
  • How to use time based visits overnight, with a full example schedule and guidance on when to enter and how long to stay
  • How to decide which method fits your child best, and why committing to one approach for at least five days matters
  • How these strategies apply if one of your goals is reducing co-sleeping
  • How to use morning reinforcement, including how to set your child up for success by reinforcing small improvements first rather than expecting perfection right away

This course builds on the nighttime routine and sleep dependency work from earlier in the series, and is designed to be used alongside your ongoing sleep journal.
