Sexuality is an important and personal part of who we are. It involves more than sexual activity. It touches identity, attraction, relationships, body awareness, and health. At Thrive by Graham Behavior Services, we aim to provide resources and education that help people explore, understand, and embrace their sexuality in safe and affirming ways. In honor of Sexual Health Awareness Month, we are highlighting the 8 dimensions of sexuality to guide self-discovery and promote respect for diversity.

1. Anatomy: My Body
Understanding your body is the foundation of sexual health. Anatomy includes knowledge of your own physical structure, comfort with your body, and awareness of how it works. Body awareness helps you make informed choices and engage in safe, healthy practices.
2. Sexual Orientation: Who I’m Attracted To
Sexual orientation refers to the emotional, romantic, or physical attraction we feel toward others. Every orientation is valid and worthy of respect. Celebrating diversity in attraction encourages inclusion and supports authentic self-expression.
3. Gender Identity: Who I Am
Gender identity is your personal sense of who you are, while gender expression is how you communicate that identity to others. Understanding and affirming gender identity fosters self-confidence and respect for others’ experiences.
4. Relationships: How I Care
Relationships involve emotional and personal connections with others. They can be romantic, platonic, familial, or community-based. Building safe, supportive, and respectful relationships is key to emotional well-being and healthy interactions.
5. Body Image: How I Feel About Myself
Body image is about your perception and feelings regarding your body. A positive body image supports self-esteem, confidence, and overall well-being. Learning to appreciate and accept your body is an important part of sexuality and health.
6. Pleasure: What Feels Good
Pleasure is about recognizing what feels enjoyable and comfortable in your body, both physically and emotionally. Understanding pleasure is a healthy part of self-awareness and sexual expression, promoting well-being and self-respect.
7. Sexual Behavior & Activity: What I Do
Sexual behavior and activity include the choices you make about sexual engagement. Safe, consensual, and informed practices are essential. Open communication and mutual respect are the foundation for healthy sexual activity.
8. Sexual & Reproductive Health: My Health and Wellness
Sexual and reproductive health involves access to education, medical care, and resources to make informed decisions. This includes contraception, STI prevention, family planning, and overall well-being. Understanding this dimension empowers individuals to maintain health and make safe choices.
Sexuality is multidimensional. Understanding each of these aspects allows us to live authentically, form meaningful connections, and make informed decisions about our health and relationships. During Sexual Health Awareness Month, Thrive by Graham Behavior Services encourages education, open conversation, and respect for all dimensions of sexuality.
