Trauma-informed care has become a familiar term in the mental health field, but many ABA practitioners are still building a working understanding of how trauma affects behavior and outcomes, especially within school settings. Adriana and Kate will walk through current research on trauma and its effects, break down the core components of trauma-informed care, and offer practical strategies BCBAs can use with educational teams. They’ll also address common barriers to implementing these practices in schools and share ways to work through them.
By the end of the session, attendees will be able to define trauma and its impact on behavior, identify actionable ways to bring trauma-informed practices into their work with school teams and students, and recognize strategies for navigating common implementation barriers.
