About This Study
This study reviewed research on caregiver training programs for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Caregiver training is an important part of applied behavior analysis because it helps parents and caregivers learn strategies to support skill development and behavior change at home and in everyday settings.
The review examined existing research to better understand how caregiver training is implemented and how researchers measure social validity, which refers to how meaningful, acceptable, and useful an intervention is to families.
The findings showed that while caregiver training is widely used and supported in the literature, many studies provide limited information about social validity and often collect this feedback only after a study is completed. The review highlights the importance of gathering meaningful caregiver feedback and considering cultural responsiveness when designing and implementing caregiver training programs.
These insights can help guide future research and support the development of caregiver training approaches that are both effective and responsive to the needs of diverse families.
